What you'll need
- A Cualify account, with onboarding finished
- At least ₹100 in your Cualify wallet — onboarding asks for this top-up
- Your workspace approved by Cualify's compliance team
- A number to call from: a Cualify number, or your own Exotel account
- Your phone, with you — an Indian (+91) number, between 09:00 and 21:00 IST (the TRAI calling window)
Test calls are real calls: they're billed to your wallet like any other call. Half a minute is usually enough to hear your agent.
Step 1 — Finish onboarding and get approved
Every workspace is reviewed by a person on our compliance team before it can place calls. It's what keeps Cualify from being used for spam.
- Complete business verification in onboarding — business details and KYC, a point of contact, and the consent declarations
- Top up at least ₹100 into your wallet. It's call credit, not a fee
- Wait for approval. We aim to respond within 1 business day on weekdays — updates come from
onboarding@cualify.in
You can do Steps 2 and 3 while you wait. Only the call itself needs the approval.
Step 2 — Get a number to call from
Every Cualify call goes out on Exotel, from an Indian ExoPhone. You have two ways to get one:
- A Cualify number — no carrier account needed. Request the Cualify Dialer add-on during onboarding and our team assigns your workspace an ExoPhone from our own Exotel account. Your dashboard shows its status until the number is assigned.
- Your own Exotel account — connect it on /integrations/telephony and calls go out from your ExoPhones. See Connect Exotel.
Why can't I test without a number? A caller ID is a claim about who is ringing, so Cualify only dials from numbers your workspace holds — a Cualify number assigned to you, or an ExoPhone on your own Exotel account. There is no shared trial number.
Step 3 — Start an agent from a template
Playbooks are the script + branching logic your AI agent follows. We ship templates so you don't have to write one from scratch.
- In Cualify, go to Playbooks
- Pick a template that's closest to your use case (e.g. "Outbound sales — SaaS demo" for lead qualification, "Appointment reminder — Service" for confirmations)
- Click "Use template". Some templates ask a few questions about your business first.
- The editor opens with the script pre-filled — leave it as-is for now, you can edit it later
Step 4 — Call yourself
On the right side of the editor, you'll see the Test panel. You need the Operator role or above to use it.
- Type your phone in E.164 format (e.g.
+919812345678) - Click "Call me"
- Your phone rings within a few seconds
- Pick up — the AI agent will greet you
- Have a 30-second conversation, then hang up
That's it. The call appears in /calls with its transcript, and a summary, sentiment and outcome shortly after you hang up. Recording is off until you turn it on in Settings → Compliance.
What if my phone doesn't ring?
The Test panel tells you why a call couldn't be placed. The messages you're most likely to see:
"Your workspace is being reviewed by our compliance team…"
Approval is still pending (Step 1). Watch for an email from onboarding@cualify.in, then try again.
"No number to call from: this workspace has no Cualify number and no Exotel account connected."
You haven't got a number yet (Step 2). Connect your Exotel account, or wait for your Cualify number to be assigned.
"Outbound calling is restricted to 09:00–21:00 IST under TRAI rules…"
You're outside the calling window (08:00–19:00 for collections agents). Try again inside it. Calling is also disabled on national holidays.
"Your wallet needs at least ₹… to place a call"
Top up on /billing and retry.
"This number is on Cualify's DND list"
The phone you typed is on the do-not-disturb list, so Cualify won't call it — even for a test. Use a different number.
"Queued" but nothing happens
Open the call in /calls to see whether it failed. If you're on your own Exotel account, check that Exotel has enabled AgentStream / Connect Voice AI on it — see Connect Exotel, Step 3.
The call rang but the agent sounded robotic
Most templates start in English (India) with Hindi mixed in. To change it, open Voice and language in the editor and pick a language and voice — try Hinglish (हिन्दी + English mixed) for the most natural-sounding Indian conversation.
What's next?
- Pick the right voice + language — how to make your agent sound like your best human rep
- Connect Exotel — to call from your own ExoPhone
- REST API — wire Cualify into your CRM so leads auto-dial as they arrive
