The 30-second pick
- Manual (default) — pay one month at a time via standard Razorpay checkout. We email a renewal reminder 7 / 3 / 1 days before expiry; you click pay. No mandate, no commitment.
- Auto-renew — UPI AutoPay / NACH mandate authorised once at signup, then Razorpay charges automatically on each cycle. Hands-off but requires you to trust us with a recurring debit on your account.
We default to manual because most early-stage customers prefer to control their own renewals — and we'd rather have a customer churning by simply not renewing than disputing a surprise auto-charge with their bank.
Side-by-side
| Aspect | Manual | Auto-renew |
|---|---|---|
| Setup | One-time Razorpay checkout | One-time mandate (UPI AutoPay / NACH) |
| Renewal trigger | Reminder email → manual click | Razorpay auto-charges, you get a receipt |
| Cancel friction | Just don't renew | Revoke mandate in /billing or via Razorpay app |
| Risk if you forget | Service pauses on day 31; resumes on renewal | Service continues; auto-charge may fail if bank balance low |
| GST invoice timing | Within 24h of each manual payment | Within 24h of each auto-charge |
| Refund flow | Identical — 15-day self-serve from /billing | Identical — 15-day self-serve from /billing |
How the reminder emails work (manual mode)
Manual-mode subscriptions get the following emails per cycle:
- T-7 days: "Your Cualify plan renews on {date}. Pay here." (one-click link to Razorpay)
- T-3 days: Same, with a brief reminder of usage this cycle so the value is fresh.
- T-1 day: Final reminder with usage stats.
- Day of expiry, 09:00 IST: "Plan expired. Active campaigns will pause within 1 hour."
- Day 1 post-expiry: "Reactivate any time — your contacts, playbooks, and integrations are preserved for 90 days."
If you renew at any point, the cycle restarts cleanly. If you don't, your data is held for 90 days then archived (still recoverable via support email).
How auto-renew works
Auto-renew uses Razorpay Subscriptions, which sits on top of UPI AutoPay (for UPI mandates) or NACH (for card mandates). The mandate authorises Razorpay to debit a fixed amount on a fixed schedule for a fixed total count of cycles (or until you cancel).
- UPI AutoPay: RBI-compliant since 2022. Most banks support it. The mandate authorisation happens once at signup via your banking app.
- NACH: traditional bank-account mandate. Slower to set up (~3 business days for first debit) but works on all bank accounts including ones without UPI.
On the renewal date, Razorpay attempts the charge. Success → silent renewal + email receipt. Failure (insufficient balance, mandate revoked) → we email you immediately and your service stays active for 7 days while you fix it.
Switching between modes
- Go to /billing
- Under Subscription, click Switch billing mode
- From manual → auto-renew: complete the Razorpay mandate flow. First auto-charge fires on your next renewal date.
- From auto-renew → manual: we revoke the mandate immediately. You stay active for the rest of the current cycle, then move to reminder-email mode for the next cycle.
If an auto-charge fails
- First failure: immediate email to you + 7-day grace period (service continues). Razorpay will retry on day 3.
- Second failure: service moves to pause state on day 8. Active campaigns drain in-flight calls then stop. New dispatches return "no active plan".
- Resolution: top up your bank balance + manually retry from /billing, or switch to manual mode and pay once.
